SESSIONS INCLUDING:
The Aberdeenshire Arwen Experience
Storm Arwen impacted widely across Aberdeenshire on Friday 26 November 2021. The resultant impacts included approximately 60,000 customers without electric for up to seven days, over 200 separate electricity faults in a single night, extensive loss of telephony, water supply and large scale physical damage to the environment. In this session we will explore the experiences of Aberdeenshire Council and partners in responding to Storm Arwen and how the immediate lessons were applied a short time later during Storms Malik and Corrie, and how collectively this has shaped the approach to individual, household, family and community resilience in Aberdeenshire.

Motor update
In January 2022 the most substantial change and update to the Highway Code happened. The implications for organisation’s. Fleet managers in particular, has been significant. The changes in behaviour required of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will have implications for road safety in the coming months. Inevitably this will also translate through to claims. The session looks at the changes; their implications, and what managers can do to reduce the risk.

SSEN – post Arwen debrief
Storm Arwen was the most significant weather event to hit Scotland in a generation with an estimated 16 million trees impacted and over 1,000 points of damage recorded on SSEN’s overhead line network. A 950-strong team worked in very difficult conditions to restore power as quickly as possible to over 100,000 homes and provide support and welfare to customers. Since the storm, SSEN has played a collaborative role in all reviews into its response, alongside conducting its own extensive customer and stakeholder research to identify and implement learnings for the winter and beyond.

Three lines model
This session will examine the evolution from the widely known and deployed Three Lines of Defence to the recently launched Three Lines Model. We will discuss the model’s ongoing relevance and highlight examples of good and bad practice in its application, both in its original and current incarnations. A key feature of the session will be a focus on the need for consistent understanding of the model and continuous collaboration across the three lines.

The great convergence
Five key trends are rewriting the way organisations need to think about talent. These current trends present significant challenges that have the potential to hinder organisations’ ability to deliver and have created a “Great Convergence” that we believe require a review of the status quo.

This presentation will look at some of the issues caused by the Great Convergence and the steps that organisations can take to retain and attract talent in today’s competitive labour market including:

  • Employee expectations
  • Rethinking the employee value proposition
  • Resilience
  • Working life factors

By considering these trends organisations and their employees should be better prepared to weather the current and future storms.
