Alarm Backs New Guide to ISO 31000

26th February 2010

ISO3000 LaunchAlarm, the public risk management association, announces the publication of a new practical guide to Enterprise Risk Management, which has been written by Paul Hopkin, Technical Director of AIRMIC, and produced in collaboration with both Alarm and The Institute of Risk Management (IRM). The guide is intended to update the Risk Management Standard as a benchmark of good practice and draws on the recently published ISO 31000 “Risk Management Principles and Guidelines”.

The new guide provides useful commentary on ISO 31000 and demonstrates a structured approach to implementing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). Intended for use by organisations both in the public and private sectors, the guide includes two simple checklists to help users see at a glance whether they have all the elements in place to implement an effective ERM programme.

Dr Lynn Drennan, CEO of Alarm, said “Alarm welcomes the production of this guide which updates the Risk Management Standard as a benchmark of good practice, and will provide practical support for public sector risk managers working towards implementing Enterprise Risk Management within their organisations.”

The new ISO 31000 guide, “A structured approach to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and the requirements of ISO 31000” can be downloaded free of charge.
