ALARM HIGHER EDUCATION SEMINAR

Friday 2 December 2022 - 09:30

25 Walbrook, London, EC4N 8AF

We welcome you to our first HE event of the year, with sessions including:

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY/HORIZON SCANNING
The world of higher education is fast moving; it sits in the middle of cultural issues, economic change, global turbulence, all the while delivering the vital mission of delivering education and research to make the world better. There is no doubt that UK Higher Education is facing multiple challenges. It seems that everyday universities are in the news, MPs and ministers are calling their work out in public, or there is another crisis which could knock their work off course. In this session James will set out what to expect in the year ahead and the major risks for all of us who value and work in higher education.

RISK BOW TIE METHODOLOGY
What is the Bow Tie technique? A Bow tie is a visual illustration of the identified risk, its causes and consequences, proactive controls, and reactive mitigation. The Bow Tie is easy to interpret and is an excellent way to engage staff of all levels in the risk identification process. This session will, through the use of an interactive case study, demonstrate the use of the Bow Tie technique particularly in a risk identification workshop environment.

SECTOR RISK BENCHMARKING
Each year, UNIAC undertake a review of risk registers across the Higher Education sector to identify where concerns lie and provide insight into the challenges facing the sector. In this session, David will explore the latest annual report, offering a deep dive into some of the themes identified and exploring these further (e.g. OfS regulatory changes, the direction of travel and how the sector is responding).

HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITTEE Q&A PANEL
This informal panel session provides delegates with the opportunity to question the Committee on plans to develop ALARM’s offering in the HE sector.
